Complaints SHM

Up until mid-2006 any social renter or buyer with a complaint regarding the operation of the housing company could go directly to the VHM (then called the VHM). Thereafter the law changed. Today, if you have a complaint concerning one of the social housing companies, you must first appeal directly to the company itself. If, after having followed this procedure, you receive no, or insufficient, attention to your complaint, then you may appeal to the Flemish ombudsman, Attn. Bart Weekers, Flemish ombudsman, Leuvenseweg 86, 1000 Brussels. You can also contact his service via e-mail at (klachten@vlaamseombudsdienst.be) or by telephone (02 552 48 48 or toll-free at 0800 240 50). You can access additional information about submitting complaints at www.vlaamseombudsdienst.be, where you’ll also find a complaint form.

The Flemish Ombudsman service will only be able to take action if you have already taken the necessary steps to discuss your complaint directly with the housing company concerned.
