Buying social housing

Via a social housing company (SHM)

In international terms, Flanders has a great number of home owners (the well-known “brick in the belly”-syndrome). This is due in part to the substantial public resources made available for property acquisition. The majority of these funds come from the federal government in the form of fiscal expenditures (i.e. deduction of interest and capital). But the Flemish authorities are making important investments in this area by, among other things, granting low-cost social loans and providing affordable, (mainly) social housing and building lots.

In this last section, we pay attention to the real estate that helps to make decent living possible, specifically the homes and building lots offered by the social housing companies (SHMs).
